Iwase “Hikiyama” Festival

A traditional festival in which floats collide in a show of strength
During the daytime, the “Hikiyama” (floats) are pulled around the town with the traditional musical accompaniment. The climax of the festival “Hikiai”, involves a contest of strength, when the floats are rammed into with each other on the streets in front of the Suwa Shrine and nearby. Many spectators are surprised by the breathtaking intensity.
